Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has released the party's campaign song for the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election titled Eikhoi Congresska Loinana' in a function held at Congress Bhawan here on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, former chief minister O Ibobi asserted that Congress party is playing its role as the opposition effectively and providing constructive suggestions to the BJP government.
The party does not criticise any good initiatives of the government.
However, it will raise question against the incompetence and failure of the BJP government to work for the welfare of the people and the state, he said while enquiring if Prime Minister Modi, who had Visited the state on multiple occasions, did anything for bringing development in the state.
The public are also aware that the numerous union ministers who had visited the state brought nothing, Ibobi added.
In the context of both Manipur and India, the BJP government has violated all the democratic principles and it is time for the public to take their stand to save the country, the state and democracy.
BJP made a mockery of the democracy founded by Congress.
Rampant violation of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution is a classic example of the BJP's arrogance.
The party openly encourages defection of elected politicians.
After a long period, ADC election was held during the Congress rule but today the BJP government has failed to conduct the election.
Likewise, the BJP government has not been able to hold the urban local body elections in the valley.
These are acts of violating democracy and it is up to the public to stop the anti-people policies of the BJP, the CLP leader said.
Congress government had strong policies for minorities and women empowerment.
Elected women representatives were given ministerial berth and Rajya Sabha seat was filled up from among the minority community.
There were also reservation policies for minority communities in government jobs.
It was the Congress government which passed 33 per cent reservation for women in decision making bodies due to which women are playing a major role in local bodies, he said.
MPCC president N Loken alleged BJP of threatening Congress workers by using firearms and other violent means.
BJP is resorting to luring strong contenders from Congress party by spending huge fund in order to defeat Congress in the 2022 election.
However, their efforts will never succeed and Congress will return to power after the 2022 election.
BJP is gradually losing hopes after the announcement of election code of conduct, he said.
He then urged the people of the state to stand up against the failed policies of the BJP government and support Congress for a better Manipur.
Terming the double engine government as a gimmick, e said that the economy of the state is in dire situation under the double engine government.
The government has misappropriated huge central fund meant for job card holders under MGNREGS.
The government had done nothing significant during the last five years.
Despite the tall claims of benefits provided to the people under Ayushman Bharat, CMHT and Ujjwala Yojana, CMHT card holders are not able to get proper benefits of the scheme.
No welfare initiatives for the youth have been taken up till date despite its assurance of one job per family.
Similarly, the BJP government has failed to provide proper benefits of the different schemes like housing for all and free education among others, he said and added that it is time for the public to teach the incompetent BJP government the right lesson.
Regarding the campaign song, he said that it will be used in the online campaign of Congress party in the wake of restrictions put up by the Election Commission of India in campaign activities in view of the Covid-19 situation.
