Man attempts to loot bank, nabbed

Imphal, September 06 2021:
A man who attempted to rob Bank of Baroda, Sangaiprou branch using knife and small arm has been arrested.
The arrested man has been identified as Thongam Ringku (40) son of late Guneshore of Kwakeithel Soibam Leikai and police recovered Rs 5 lakh in cash, one 9mm pistol with five live rounds and a machete (thangjou) from his possession.
According to police, Ringku entered the Bank branch at about 10.50am on Monday and threatened staff and officials of the bank brandishing gun and knife and then closed the shutter of the main door.
Ringku then threatened to kill manager of the bank if Rs 5 lakh in cash is not given and the manager accordingly handed over the cash to him.
As Ringku tried to exit from the bank with the money, personnel of 32 CRPF on duty nearby and a team of Lamphel police led by OC Sallauddin cordoned the building of the bank.
The security team entered the building of the bank and nabbed Ringku.
During initial questioning, Ringku disclosed that the 9mm pistol he possessed was issued to his brother who is currently posted at Keithelmanbi as sub-inspector (Manipur police) and he had stolen the gun.
Lamphel police has registered a case and Ringku has been remanded to police custody for further questioning after being produced in a court.
