ATSUM's ban affects rail tunneling works

Digging work of railway line tunnel at Khongsang in Tamenlong district in Manipur has been put to a halt since February 3 due to the ban imposed by All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur (ATSUM) on all kinds of the Government's developmental works or activities taken up in five hill districts of Manipur.
The tribal student body's ban has reportedly affected railway tunnel digging works in the areas covering from Tupul to Rengpang areas,parts of Tamenglong and Jiribam.
Appealing to every section of the society not to disturb and target the railway development works, an official of Coastal Projects Ltd Company has drawn the attention of the state Government over the matter on Tuesday.
The company has been entrusted 10 percent of the tunnel digging works covering from Tupul to Rengpang area under NF Railway Tunnel Projects.
It has set the target to complete the portion by February this year, but the digging work had been put to a complete halt due to the ATSUM's ban, he said.
Transportation of raw materials to the areas had also been stopped due to the threat by ATSUM, he accused.
ATSUM has imposed the ban on railway works pushing its demands to the state Government since February 3 .
