Sit-in staged against vandalising temple

Locals of Brahmapur Guruaribam Bamon Leikai under Porompat PS on Saturday blocked the road in the locality and staged a sit-in protest against the vandalising of a temple on the intervening night of February 2 and 3.Unknown miscreants broke down the door of the temple, which had been declared a protected historical monument under the Manipur Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, and vandalised the inside of the temple completely.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad Manipur Up-Prant, the Temple's caretakers and All Manipur Dharma Raksha Samiti have strongly condemned the incident.
During the sit-in, one of the caretakers named Guruaribam Sanatomba conveyed that the temple has been in existence since the reign of king Charairongba.
He then said that no one can destroy the Hindu religion which had survived the onslaught of Mughal and British, and appealed to all concerned not to discriminate between religions.
He urged the authority concerned to arrest the person(s) involved in the vandalism and award strict punishment.
One G Ranjit Sharma, who is founder of All Manipur Dharma Raksha Samiti, said 'it is high time for the authorities to root out the elements targeting a particular religion for the last few decades" .
