Imphal, September 01 2015:
Expressing shock over the Monday's violent incident in Churachandpur district that killed three persons and injured many, valley based Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) on Tuesday called on all the communities in the state to unite together and restore peace in the state.
All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), United Committee Manipur (UCM) and Community of Civil Society Kangleipak (CCSK) jointly organised a joint press meet at the UCM office.
AMUCO vice president Ph Deban said that misunderstandings between the communities have brought enough violence in the state.
He said only talks can bring peace in Manipur.
Opposing the passing of the three Bills by Manipur Government on Tuesday various tribal student bodies had imposed a 12-hour hills bandh in the state which killed three persons and injured many, said Deban and termed the incident as very unfortunate.
He appealed to all the communities and leaders to come forward and have talks to bring a long lasting solution.
Urging the security personnel not to harass and hurt the agitators while trying to restore law and order, Deban also called on the State Government to take up immediate measures to restore peace in the violence-hit areas while appealing to all not to incite violence through social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
Speaking at the press meet, UCM vice president Sunil Karam said that the demand of an inner line permit system in the state, resided by more than 36 communities, is not only for one particular community.
ILPS will protect all the indigenous communities both in the hills and valley, said Sunil Karam while urging all not to spread rumour through social media websites.
Terming the Churanchandpur incident as unfortunate, Community of Civil Society Kangleipak vice president Chingkheinganbi Nameirakpam also called upon all the communities in the state to remain united so that such unwanted incidents could be prevented in future.
