Titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba has expressed distress on Wednesday over the growing boundary tensions between Manipur and Nagaland.
The titular king was participating in the oath-taking ceremony of newly elected office bearers of United People's Front (UPF) at the Uttra Shanglen of Royal Palace in Imphal East.
Leishemba Sanajaoba administered oath of office to the new office bearers of the Front for the term 2015/18 .
In a brief speech Leishemba, who was the chief guest on the occasion, called on the people to be patient at the assurance given by the State Government towards resolving the Manipur-Nagaland border dispute.
He said land measuring some 10 sq.
km within Manipur's territory in Dzkou valley under Senapati district has been reportedly grabbed by people from the neighbouring State.
Leishemba asked what will happen if the illegal encroachment activities continue unabated and urged the people to come out to defend the long-established political boundary of the State.
The titular king recalled that Maharaj Gambhir Singh formed Manipur Levy to safeguard the boundary of the former kingdom.
"We also need to set up such a levy" .
UPF president BM Yaima Shah and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) president Wangkhemcha Shamjai were the president and the guest of honour of the event.
Shamjai in his speech said it seemed the State Government was showing its inability to handle the boundary issue and promised that AMWJU would work together with the people over the issue.
