Differently abled persons call for help

The State Platform of Disabled People Organisation (SPDPO) has sought the State Government's intervention to address the grievances of disabled persons of the State.
Addressing media persons today at Manipur Press Club, president of SPDPO, Dr Sapam Jasobanta said that disabled people of the State have been facing many problems as the Government has been providing help to them only in papers.
He alleged that numerous schemes specially contrive for the disabled section of the society are not implemented by the State Government and it has caused serious inconveniences to them.
The Marriage Incentive Award was introduced in 2013 .
Ironically none of the applicants have received the benefits so far, he said.
Moreover, the Financial Assistance Scheme introduced in 2014 is not yet distributed to the beneficiaries, he added.
Highlighting the rape incident of a disabled minor few days back, Dr Jasobanta said that the Government agencies have been neglecting the case and the accused is not yet booked.
The State Disabled Commission has ceased to function.
He stressed the need to revive the Commission in order to prevent cases relating to crime against disabled persons.
