BJP state chief pitches for Nursing Directorate

BJP Manipur Pradesh president A Sharda Devi has stressed the need for establishing a Directorate of Nursing in the state.
A week-long State Level Workshop on Development of Nursing Services among Trained Nurses', which is being organised by Trained Nurses' Association of India (TNAI), Manipur State Branch in collaboration with GNM Training School, Churachandpur and College of Nursing, Medical Directorate, has commenced from Thursday at the conference hall of the directorate, Lamphel here.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Sharda noted that there are many nurses recognised by the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, but there is no Directorate of Nursing in the state.
The Directorate is much needed considering the role played by nurses, she said and assured of extending all possible help to see to the establishment of the Directorate.
She also informed that a proposal would be made to the Chief Minister for formulating a policy for nurses working in the private sector.
In addition to looking after Covid warriors, there is a need for recognising the contributions of nurses.
Thus, she urged for making double the efforts while keeping a broad mind in carrying out any work.
Recounting the sacrifices and contributions of healthcare workers especially doctors and nurses during the pandemic, the president said that patients get new hope of life when they visit doctors and nurses.
However, there is a need for cooperation between patients and doctors and nurses, she asserted.
Urging all nurses to assume the role of Mother Teresa, Sharda also requested both nurses and doctors to listen to their patients and offer comfort.
When unwanted situation occurs due to dissatisfaction from the patients' side, it is essential that doctors and nurses do the needful to help restore the vitality of the patients to their original healthy state.
In his speech as the functional president, Health Services director Dr K Rajo remarked that women have continued to be at the forefront in various sectors and as such, assured of passing all necessary proposals, in addition to those related to nurses.
Highlighting the contributions made by nurses during the Covid pandemic, Dr Rajo stressed the need for updating training protocols from time to time.
Nurses are the ones who closely monitor the patients as the doctors generally limit their activities to issuing treatment process.
As such, the National Family Health Welfare presented a prize in recognition of the work done by the health workers of the state, he reasoned.
The director then emphasised the need for systematic implementation of national and state schemes including timely delivery of the benefits to the deserving beneficiaries.
The inaugural function was also attended by College of Nursing principal Dr N Surbala Devi as guest of honour.
