Kakching, September 22 2021:
While denouncing the prolonged delay in holding the Autonomous District Council (ADC) elections, ex-members of ADC Chandel have condemned the recruitment drive launched by the government for filling up vacant posts in various departments under the ADC, equating it as an act of violating the rights of the tribal community.
Addressing a press meet held at Japhou town on Wednesday, convenor Sh Manglem Monsang, representing the ADC Chandel Ex-Members Coordination Committee, said that a meeting of ADC Chandel ex-members was convened on September 18 at Kanemram.
During the meeting, the attendees condemned the government for holding the recruitment process, while delaying the ADC election.
"The ADC Chandel Ex-Members Coordination Committee convened another meeting on Wednesday near Japhou, Chandel denouncing the state government for continuing the recruitment and adopted a resolution on the same.
Additionally, the Committee expressed support to the decision taken by Hill Areas Committee Manipur during a meeting on Tuesday for postponing the recruitment process in departments under the ADC," he conveyed.
Manglem continued: "The ADC election and the recruitment process in various departments under it were initially delayed due to the pandemic.
However, with the improvement of the Covid-19 situation in the state, the government decided to resume the recruitment process while ignoring conduct of the ADC elections, which is basically a violation of tribal rights" .
Urging for postponing the recruitment processes which are being carried out-hastily in view of the upcoming Assembly elections, Manglem appealed to the government for conducting the ADC polls first and forming a new Council, before continuing the recruitment process under the ADC.
The press meet was also attended by ADC Committee convenor Ch Meshil and other members.
