Kangpokpi, September 19 2014 :
Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), the apex body of the Kuki tribes, has drawn the attention of the state Government on Village Development Committee and New Land Use Policy.
While reminding that the KIM had submitted memorandum to the Secretary, (Revenue Department), Govt.of Manipur on July 15 strongly opposing Manipur Gazette Part-II (A), published by Government of Manipur vide Office Memorandum No.9/23/2012-Hills (Pt.) on January 6, 2014 in connection with the proposed formation of Village Development Committee, KIM urged the Chief Minister for immediate cancellation of VDC and the proposed NLUP.
Khaimang Chongloi, General Secretary of KIM stated that serious consultation was held on the issue of Village Development Committee and New Land Use Policy with large participation of Kuki Chiefs, Public leaders and Civil Society Organizations' leaders on July 24 under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Manipur and it unanimously decided to oppose tooth and nail the proposed New Land Use Policy and the Gazette Notification for introduction of Village Development Committee.
Chongloi continued that it is totally an opposite of the traditional land uses and practices of the Kukis which would completely affect our age old traditional village administration while adding that Kuki Inpi Manipur also put into words our strong opposition of state Government's policies on both VDC and NLUP to Ministers, MP, MLAs and ADC members from the Kuki community during the meeting held at Classic Hotel on September 14 .
While expecting some sensitivity of the state Government on the issues, the KIM General Secretary urged Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh for immediate cancellation of VDC Gazette Notification and the proposed New Land Use Policy in the interest of the Kuki community in particular and the tribal in general.
