Imphal, April 16 2019:
The 15 days special Handloom Expo, organised by Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers & Handicrafts Artisans CS limited (AWAS) under the sponsorship of Ministry of textiles, new Delhi, concluded at GM hall today.
AWAS Board Director S Bhubon stated that the special Handloom Expo was organised as the third phase after a National Handloom Expo and a district level exhibition was organised at Nilakuthi and Churachandpur district respectively.
A total of 71 stalls were opened and altogether garments worth Rs 84,22,400 were sold during the expo.
The special Handloom Expo provided a marketing platform for women weavers to showcase their designs apart from giving an opportunity to the public to explore varieties of items and different garments as well, he added.
Although proper infrastructure has been set up for handloom at Nilakuthi and Lamboikhongnangkhong, the trading business has not witnessed any improvement as the place is not convenient for the women weavers and buyers to conduct their business. It would be rather convenient for all if the Urban Haat is set up at a proper location, he remarked.
