Imphal, October 12 2021:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who is also in-charge of Home Department, has stated that steps will be soon be taken up to take custody of license guns.
The CM was responding to a question from a reporter during the launch of "CM Da Haisi" platform at the CM Secretariat here Tuesday.
Informing that steps are on for taking custody of license guns in connection with the upcoming election, Biren expressed regret over the rising incidents of poll violence during election campaigns.
In a democracy, a person is allowed to freely vote for whoever they want and they cannot be coerced into giving up their right of choice.
The democratic system must be respected and anyone using violent means during the polls will be liable for legal action.
As such, a meeting with officials of Home department over license guns was held, he informed, while adding that actions will soon be taken up in the matter.
The CM further informed the reporters that a special team, in addition to the existing police force, has been constituted to look into the entry of outsiders into the state from Myanmar using fake Aadhaar cards.
"Apart from conducting house-to-house check, legal action will be initiated against those found making the fake documents.
Meanwhile, one such person was arrested in Churachandpur and action has been taken up under the Foreigner Act and Criminal Act.
There are reports of those entering the state secretly taking advantage of the turmoil in Myanmar.
As such, a team of Vigilance department tied off with the police and Assam Rifles is stationed for the purpose of checking the influxes at Moreh and also at Beihang, which fortunately has reported less cases.
Additionally, a special cell has been opened under the Additional SP alongside the vigilance team," he conveyed.
Biren continued: "As denizens of Manipur, we should act and behave accordingly.
We should not do things which could affect the integrity, political or demography of the state, because of self-vested interests.
There is no benefit in helping outsiders settle in the state but only huge risks.
Thus, action will be taken up against those agents who are helping bring in outsiders into the state".
Commenting on reports that some people in Imphal East do not know how to speak Manipuri, the CM said that we are not human if we do not know our own language.
He then urged all concerned to contact his mobile or the Cell for any information in the matter, adding that such suspicious persons will be arrested immediately.
"The natives of the state know the language of the state and as such, anyone who is unable to speak the same is an outsider.
Thus, it is only right that action will be initiated against such persons", he contended.
