Imphal, September 11 2022:
Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) on Sunday offered Langbal Heisoi (tributes) to the martyrs of Manipur including Sapam Robinhood at Athoubasingi Ningshing Khubam, Awaching.
Speaking on the occasion, JCILPS convenor Phulindro Konsam contended that ILP system which is being implemented in the state is like a toothless tiger.
As such, the Committee will continue to work hard until the system is made more stringent and ensure full protection of the indigenous people and their rights.
Urging the government to formulate a proper set of regulations for the system, Phulindro also expressed serious concerned over reports of detection of non-renewal or extension of ILPs.
Thus, he requested the government to prevent such a situation, while adding that JCILPS will continue to conduct drives in this regard.
Rejecting the cabinet's decision to set 1961 as the base year of the system which came into effect in 2019, the convenor said that numerous memorandums have been submitted requesting to set 1951 as the base year.
JCILPS has been demanded for protection of indigenous rights, conduct of NRC and effective implementation of the population commission and will continue to do so Until the stated demands are fulfilled, he assured, while calling for the people's support and cooperation in this regard.
Meanwhile, Lainingthou Sanamahi Puya Santhok Lup, Moreh organised "Heisoi Thaba", offering to departed ancestors, at Ima Kondong Lairembi Harao bung near Moreh town in Tengnoupal district on Sunday.
The ritual programme was attended by Meetei residents from five localities of Moreh.
