Imphal, February 08 2013:
A 10-day long Gandhi Shilp Bazaar 2013 which is being organised under the auspices of Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Limited, Paona Bazaar has commenced from today at Tiddim ground here.
Around 150 stalls from across the State are participating in the event being sponsored by Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India.
Inaugurating the 10-day long event as Chief Guest, Principal Secretary (Commerce and Industries) O Nabakishore expressed hope that Gandhi Shilp Bazaar 2013, which has been commenced from today, would be of great help to the craft-persons of the State and ease their problem of non-availability of a market to sell their handloom and handicraft products.
He, however, observed that a permanent marketing place exclusively for the handloom and handicraft products in the State would be possible only when the tourism industry blossoms and the number of tourists visiting the State increase.
Nonetheless, the Central and the State Government are trying to develop the handicraft and handloom products of the State by sanctioning huge amounts of funds, he added.
President of Manipur Apex Handloom Weavers and Handicrafts Artisans CS Limited M Satyabhama Devi presided over the inaugural function of the 10-day long Gandhi Shilp Bazar, 2003, which was also attended by Assistant Director, Development Commissioner Handicrafts, Marketing and Service Extension Centre, Imphal, Ministry of Textiles, T Rollee Vareshim and Deputy Register, Register Co-operative Societies, Manipur, M Binodini as Guests of Honour.
