Imphal, May 06 2013:
Highlighting the existing condition of government schools in Andro Assembly Constituency they have witnessed during a recent inspection tour, Democratic Student' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has drawn the immediate attention of the concerned authorities for taking up necessary measures for improving the educational infrastructures at Moirang Purel Primary School; Moirang Purel High School and Itham Primary School.
Issuing a statement in this regard, Premchand Tongbram, Secretary of Education & Academic Affairs, DESAM pointed out that due to lack of maintenance by state government, school building of Moirang Purel P/S which was constructed 20 years ago had been blown away in the storm and more than 350 students are facing the problem of not having proper class room.
The school has 7 (seven) primary teachers and 5 (five) others hired by School Management Development Committee.
Except for a broken and ruined one, the co-educational school has no separate toilet for boys and girls.
However, a two-room toilet was seen being constructed by village authority of the area.
It also has no kitchen shed for preparing Mid Day Meal foods.
However, the most commendable act is that local MLA was found extending all possible helps for the betterment of the school as well as other educational institutes under his constituency.
As the school Head Mistress disclosed, the MLA has given a TATA Winger from his side for the transportation of teachers from far off places free of cost, Premchand said.
The storm has also set apart the verandahs of Moirang Purrel High School and the school is in a pathetic condition today.
For the school which has around 100 students, there are 8 (eight) arts graduate and 3 (three) science graduate teachers, but it has no teachers for Hindi and Meetei Mayek.
Surprising, one science graduate teacher identified as Bijen has not been attending the school since August 2012 .
On the other hand, Itham Primary School has only 2 (two) teachers and 2 (two) other private teachers hired by MLA Shyamkumar.
The school has no sufficient desks and benches to accommodate all its 100 students.
Even classes of different standards are conducted in a single class room, Premchand added.
