Legal awareness programme on crime against women held

Imphal, April 03 2019:
State Commission for Women organised a two-day legal awareness programme at Singjamei Waikhom Leikai Radha Mandap today.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson Manipur State Commission for Women Pro-fessor Dr Binota Meinam said that the programme is being organised to create awareness about the various rights and protection given to women to protect themselves from crimes.
Consciousness about their rights will empower the women and help them approach the authorities concerned for redressal on event of any crime against them, she said.
Rising crime against women and girls is a matter of concern that threatens the development of a society, she said and added that it is imperative that men are also made familiar with the laws and Acts that protect women from crime.
The awareness programme aims at creating awareness to both men and women, she said and asserted that the State Commission for Women will function at its best to ensure safety and protection to all women.
The awareness programme sponsored by National Commission for Women was attended by social worker Leishangthem Mani Singh, members of State Commission for Women Soibam (O) Neelima Devi, Dr Farida Shah and Ranjita Golmei and others.
Earlier, on April 1 and 2, the Manipur State Commission for Women had organised a similar awareness programme at Napangkhong Community Hall, Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai.
Professor Dr Binota Meinam, Chairperson (MCSW), H Tombi Devi, Pradhan Ward No 1, GR Heingang Kendra, Soibam (O) Neelima Devi, member MSCW, Ngangom Tejkumar Singh and Thiyam Rajkeshor attended the event.
