No compromise on territorial integrity: UCM

Supporting the move of the central government for improving the Indo-Myanmar relations under the Act East Policy, United Committee Manipur (UCM) however asserted that it will never allow negotiation or tolerate any form of compromise on the territorial integrity of Manipur.
It further cautioned of launching intense protest if fencing works in the disputed Indo-Myanmar border pillar areas are not stopped within June 20 .
Speaking to newspersons at its office, Lamphelpat here on Thursday, UCM president Joychandra Konthoujam informed that the Committee has already urged CM N Biren and Union Minister of State for External Affairs, Dr Rk Ranjan to stop the ongoing fencing works in the disputed Indo-Myanmar border pillar no.80 and 81 areas last year.
The CM assured of halting the border fencing activities while Dr Ranjan also affirmed that necessary measures would be taken up after verification of the disputed border pillars.
In contradiction to the assurances given, UCM upon inspection found continuation of fencing activities 1 km inside the territory of Manipur in the same areas where dispute over the border pillars remained unsolved.
Such act of the central government has disheartened the people of Manipur.
It is shameful of the CM and the Union Minister of State not to keep their words, he denounced.
Maintaining that UCM does not intend to launch agitations keeping in view of the people's yearning for a stable environment, Joychandra, however, cautioned that it is prepared to resort to protest if the state government fails to stop the fencing activities within June 20.Fencing should be done based on the traditional boundary, he added.
While asserting that it is the last and final appeal of UCM, Joychandra also drew the attention of all 60 MLAs of the state on the matter and further exhorted the CM and the Union Minister of State not to invite for agitation and to keep their words.
