Ministerial team scans Chandel projects

Imphal, May 30 2022:
Works minister Konthoujam Govindas and commerce & industry minister Nemcha Kipgen along with Heirok MLA Th Radheshyam and Chandel MLA SS Olish on Monday inspected various infrastructural development works being taken up by the state government in Chandel district.
The ministerial team checked the on-going construction of Cold Storage Unit at Chadonkhong, visited the proposed site for Industrial Estate Work shed at Salemthar, D1C Office, on going construction of bridge, amongst others.
Speaking during the tour, minister Nemcha appealed to the people of Chandel district to join hands and collectively promote their goods by utilising the infrastructures like industrial estate, cold storage unit, once they are fully operational.
PWD chief engineer Kh Temba, TCI secretary Michael Achom, MANIDCO MD Peter Salam, YAS director T Phulen, officers concerned and officials of various departments accompanied the ministerial team during the visit.
Speaking as chief guest during the closing ceremony of 56th All Lamkang Sports Meet-2022 organised by Lamkang Kurchuknao Kunpun (LKK) at Angkhel.
Chayang playground on Monday, minister Govindas conceded that condition of roads in both valley and hill regions are in bad shape and as such work will be taken up at the earliest to address it.
He revealed that the chief minister has proposed to the centre for granting a special package under 'Critical Road Connectivity in Hill Areas and New District' so as to ensure better connectivity in hill districts as well as in newly formed districts.
Govindas also mentioned that due to Chandel MLA SS Olish's earnest effort, roads in the district are being repaired under the state government's '100 Action Points for First 100 Days'.
While observing that state's biggest plus point is sports, he, however, lamented that more and more Manipuri youth are falling victim to drug related activities.
He praised LKK for holding the 56 th All Lamkang Sports Meet-2022 under the theme 'Stand up Against Drugs: Save Life' in this prevailing situation.
Govindas also announced that under Khelo India project, numerous projects are being taken up and in case of Chandel district, Rs 5 lakh each will be released for development of football and volleyball infrastructure.
District Sports Complex, Chandel has been identified for football, while for volleyball public should consult with the local MLA if they want it to be located at Angkhel Chayang playground.
If the Angkhel playground is widened up to a standard size, a gallery would also be constructed, he assured.
The minister further assured that the government is plan-rung to open regular coaching centres for various sports at places suitable for a particular sport along with developing sports infrastructure accordingly.
