Vanamahotsava celebrated

As part of the nationwide celebration of 65th Vanamahotsava, the Range Officer, Nongmaiching Forests Range, Irilbung in collaboration with Andro Khunnou Leikai Youths' Sporting Club organized a tree plantation programme under the supervision of Central Forests Division, Mantripukhri on Friday.
During the programme held at Pureiromba Sanglen at Andro Bazar in Imphal East, Village Chief of Chakpa, Andro Ch.Gandhar Singh and Conservator of Forests Th.Mahendrapratap Singh, IFS of Forests Department (central circle) attended as chief guest and president respectively, while Arun R.S, IFS, Director of Manipur Zoological Garden and D.K.Vinodkumar, IFS, DFO, Central Forests Division co-hosted the programme.
Maintaining that plants are inalienable friends of human beings, Chief Guest Gandhar Singh in his speech said organizing such programmes at Andro area was very significant at this hour.
He stated that under his leadership, the Nongmaiching hill on the Andro side has been conserving trees for many years.
However, on the other side of the hill at Mahadev and Khallong area, continued deforestation has made the hills barren, stated the village chief while appealing to the Forest Department to pay attention to the menace of rampant deforestation in the area.
Social worker Dr..YMani Singh and Superintendent of District T.B hospital, Imphal East Dr.Dharmamukta Singh also attended as guests of honour of the celebration participated among others by students, senior citizens and members of Panchayats.
