'Elimination of Violence against Women' observed

Centre for Women and Girls, Lhunajang Village Pallel along with Chandel district administration, district police, One Stop Centre Chandel, District Legal Services Authority (Chandel).
ICDS Chandel, Wisecrabs Chandel, SVEEP India Chandel, Anal Sinnu Ruwl Chandel and Widow Welfare Society Chandel jointly observed UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women at the DCs Chandel office complex on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, deputy commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar appealed to all to stop violence against women and let women live freely so as, to bring about progressive family and society.
Pointing out that the One Stop Centre has been set up in Chandel DC office complex so that women facing violence could take shelter temporarily, he urged the people to avail the benefits of the centre.
The centre is opened all day long and those women facing violence and do not have the facility or means of physically coming to the centre could contact the staff through phones or their near and dear ones could also contact for them.
Rajkumar further said that violence against women could not be ended instantly.
However, violence should be curtailed at the highest level so as to ensure a gender equality society.
He assured of taking up initiatives after discussing with all concerned for the welfare and security of women in Chandel district.
CWG secretary Hechin Haokip delivered the key note address of the function and also submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner for the welfare of women.
As a part of the event, DC Rajkumar flagged off a run with a message 'End Violence against women'.
The run passed through Japhou Bazaar and ended at new Ima Keithel, Chandel.
