35 AR launches rain water harvesting system in Ukhrul

The 35 Assam Rifles of IGAR (S) constructed a rain Water Harvesting tank at Khaivaren Tang in Ukhrul town as a first ever pilot project of Rain Water Harvesting System in Ukhrul district.
The new facility was inaugurated by Colonel Manoj Shinde, commandant of 35 Assam Rifles, 10 Sector, Somsai in the presence of Major Rahul Chawla, commander of Bravo Company, Assam Rifles, Winotang and locals of Khaivaren Tang on Saturday.
Meanwhile, former chairman of Khaivaren Baptist Fellowship (KBF) AS Pamlei cut the ceremonial ribbon on behalf of Colonel Shinde.
Speaking on the occasion, Colonel Shinde informed that the Assam Rifles has been working hard to improve the infrastructure and living conditions of the people in the district, even as they are here for maintaining peace and tranquillity in the region.
He said that the new rain water harvesting tank has been constructed under the initiative of Assam Rifles so as to mitigate the problems of water scarcity being faced by the people of Ukhrul town.
"Seeing this problem faced by the public here, we have, on our part, also apprised the district administration of the same to do something to address this issue," he said.
He further assured that Assam Rifles would always be there for the people and do whatever they could to help address the problems of the people.
He also highlighted that compared to the past, the situation in Ukhrul has improved a lot and peace has been restored.
Time has now come for the people to come together for peaceful coexistence in order to ensure progress and prosperity, he added.
Colonel Shinde also assured that he would look into a proposal submitted by Khaivaren Tang Organisation (KTO) for installing street lamps along the western BRTF road that runs through the locality.
Meanwhile, PRO IGAR (S) informed that due to acute scarcity of water during the dry season at Khaiverang Tang, Hungpung village, need for a project to harness and store rainwater was highlighted.
As part of ARCAP, Somsai Battalion undertook the initiative for carrying out the construction of a pilot project of rainwater harvesting to address the water scarcity problem being faced by the local populace.
The village authorities appreciated the efforts made by Assam Rifles and urged to undertake more such initiatives for bringing more development in the area benefitting the community at large, it added.
