The five days Waree Leeba Festival organised by Repertory of Waree Leeba, Manipur, Khurai Chaithabi Leirak, Imphal East at Hanjabam Mandop, Wangkhei Thangapat Mapal, Hanjabam Leirak, concluded today .
The closing day of 4th Guru Ngaseppam Tombi memorial Waree Leeba festival was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar as chief guest while Titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba and AIR retired station director, BB Sharma were seated on the dais as dignitaries .
Deputy Chief Minister, while speaking at the event, stated that the tradition of Waree Leeba used to popular at the each localities of the Manipur, however, with the change of time, the art form is gradually dying .
Waree Leeba is a form of tradition in which people can learn moral values and discipline fom the stories itself, he said and added that the youth of the present generation should indulge in reviving such art form so that the trend is continued in the future also .
Lauding and expressing gratitude towards the elderly storytellers and Gurus, Joykumar assured that the State Government and the concerned department would discuss to provide benefit for them.
Pensions were distributed to 13 elderly storytellers as a part of the festival while certificates were also provided to various artistes who participated in the festival.
