Imphal, May 13 2023:
Many trucks carry-ing goods from other states to Manipur are unable to reach Imphal owing to the absence of security along the national highways amid the ethnic clashes in the state.
Meanwhile, questions have been raised on the present status of the 20,000 security personnel deployed by the central government to control the violence in Manipur.
According to a source, around 200 trucks and 30 oil tankers are stuck in Senapati district along National High-way-2 (Imphal-Dimapur), while another 200 trucks and over 100 oil tankers are at Di-mapur.
Along Imphal-Jiribam road, around 200 trucks are stranded.
The trucks and tank-ers stranded on Imphal-Di - mapur entered Dimapur on May 11 along with security.
However, some armed groups looted the goods the trucks despite presence of security at Henbung area of Kangpokpi district.
Owing to the poor security, the trucks returned to Senapati.
The source further said that all vehicles travelling from Guwahati to Imphal have re-fused to carry any goods due to the ethnic clashes while Guwahati- based transport agencies decided to suspend operation of trucks carrying essential items, medicines and edibles, stating that the security personnel posted in Manipur are not taking strict measures for the safety of the drivers.
The security that is provided is at the front of the convoy and as such, trucks in the middle are left unguarded.
As the security provision is unable to properly protect the drivers, they (drivers) have refused to drive the trucks bound for Imphal.
Amid this, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union Manipur made a written request to Manipur security advisor Kuldiep Singh on Friday, urging for providing full security to the stranded trucks and escorting them to Imphal at the earliest.
How-ever, no response has been provided till date.
On the other hand, people of the state have questioned where the 20,000 security personnel deployed by the central government to control the communal violence and restore peace in the state, are being utilised.
Questions have been raised on the absence of security forces in areas where fresh conflicts are being re-ported and also along the na-tional highways.
