Senapati, July 10 2021:
The Tribal Knowledge Foundation (TKF) has successfully organised the 72nd Van Mahotsav weeklong celebration by planting tree saplings and spreading awareness on forest and environmental issues in different blocks and villages of Senapati District along with forest department, NGOs, civil societies and educational institutions.
The Foundation organised the event at Laii Circle, Saranamai, Saranamai Khaikho and Koide villages.
Around 2700 tree saplings procured from Tadubi, Mao Gate, and Shajouba Range Office were planted in the targeted villages during the weeklong celebration.
The tree plantation programmes were carried out in the presence of TKF president Dr Paode A, vice president RT Pou Vemai, representatives of NGOs, TKF secretary Th Vipuni Ruhmai, range officer Liyai Range Benjamin Ziipao, agriculture officer Ng Ngaorai, Assistant Prof of Lungnila Elizabeth School of Social Work Daihii Rona, Rodrick Rona, Koide Youth and Students' Organisation (KYSO) assistant general secretary Peter Yunou.
The plantation drives covered village compounds, roads and barren forest lands.
Besides, president and secretary of TKF interacted with the youth and villagers on the issues of deforestation and the need to protect forest and environment.
TKF after thorough study found that organising workshops and seminars in the villages would be another effective measure to make the people aware about the importance of forest.
Therefore, the foundation urged forest and environment department, ministers concerned, environmentalists, social leaders, civil societies, youth and student bodies, and public to support their 'visionary move' and future activities in protecting forests, wildlife and environment.
