IGAR (S) hosts Chakkotiba feast, Fetes prominent women

In keeping with its annual tradition, IGAR (South) celebrated the festival of Ningol Chakkouba at Mantripukhri on Tuesday by felicitating and honouring the prominent women of Manipur.
Women from all communities and varied fields of excellence attended the event which began with lighting of the lamp jointly by Padmashree Ksh Thouranishabi Devi, Ch Jamini Devi, Grace T Shatsung, Sitara Begum and Lily Telien.
It was followed by a cultural programme with performances by renowned artistes of the state that included a musical tribute to 'Ningol Oibi' by Jasmin Leivon Kom.
The musical unity dance by Me-kola Nachom and melodious songs by Rani Sharma and T Mandakini Devi were also part of the programme.
Prominent 'Ningols' addressed the audience conveying their gratitude and appreciation on behalf of their communities to the Assam Rifles for joyful celebration of their custom and traditions by organising the grand function.
The Inspector General in his message appreciated the invaluable contribution of the women of the state in varied fields and stated that it was an honour to host and celebrate the auspicious occasion with them.
He appealed to the Ningols to continue their inimitable role in maintaining peace, development and harmony in the society.
The General Officer also emphasised that the state is undergoing a positive and constructive transformation in which women must make immense difference.
On behalf of the Ningols, the speakers expressed gratitude to the gesture of Assam Rifles to strengthen the brother-sister bond and emphasised that the cordial relationship between the security forces and the society will always play a positive role in ensuring sustainable peace and prosperity in the state.
The event was conducted in true Manipuri tradition with everyone enjoying a sumptuous traditional Manipuri feast on plantain leaves.
On departure, all Ningols were extended gifts as a symbol of love and mutual respect.
Living up with the aphorism of "Friends of North East People", Assam Rifles through its endeavours enshrines the unique custom and traditions of the region into a fabric of unity.
