Imphal, October 09 2011:
Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur & Nagaland) has expressed sadness over the gun-battle between two insurgent groups in Zeliangrong area.
In a statement, general secretary of the Union K Poushinglung recalled that in an ambush laid by Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) on NSCN (IM) somewhere between Taosang and Subung (Leisok) Zeliangrong villages under Nungba sub-division in Tamenglong district, five NSCN (IM) cadres and one civilian driver were killed.
The Union considers this incident as an act against the spirit of the appeal of Chagot Phom (Zeliangrong Elders' Forum of Peace Broker), Poushinglung observed, and pointed out that Zeliangrong Union (AMN) constituted Chagot Phom following declaration of ceasefire by the Government of India with different factions of Naga insurgent groups and through it a standing appeal had been made to all insurgent groups to maintain peace in Zeliangrong area.
The Union has reiterated its appeal to all concerned to shun confrontation and violence among themselves but seek lasting solution and peace though dialogue and negotiation with the Government.
