Imphal, December 08 2022:
Following an understanding reached between the land owners and tenants of Lamboikhul Loukol, a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for farming, selling of agricultural farmland and mortgaging of farmland has been framed and agreed upon.
Addressing media persons at Lamboikhul on Tuesday, Lamboikhul Development Committee secretary H Sanjoy Meetei informed that a joint meeting of the farmland owners and tenants of Lamboikhul Loukol was held on December 4 during which several resolutions were adopted.
It was agreed that every tenant engaged in farming activities in areas with good irrigation facilities will provide 5 bags of rice/grains while those in poorly irrigated areas will provide 4 bags of rice/grains on yearly basis.
However, the decision of the committee will be final in case there is no crop yield at all.
It was also agreed that the tenant should inform one year in advance if the owner wishes to cultivate his field by him.
The land owner has the right to replace his tenant if the latter could not meet the condition of provision of rice/grains for two consecutive years.
The land owner has to inform the tenant first if at all he desires to sell off the land and that the same/earlier tenant would be given the privilege to continue cultivation even after the ownership is changed, he added.
