Khabung villagers destroy poppy plantation

On the directive of Poumai Naga Students' Union (PNTM), villagers of Khabung Lower and Khabung Upper in Senapati district destroyed poppy plantation, believed to be surreptitiously planted in the area.
The villagers also destroyed huts that were found constructed and the held primed for plantation of poppy crops.
After destroying the poppy plantation, villagers of Khabung Lower and Khabung Upper served strict warning to Nepalese people who were suspected to be involved in poppy plantations and also to the villagers against lending their land for poppy plantation.
They warned that strict action will be initiated against anyone found neglecting the warning.
Mention may be made here that Poumai Naga Union and other frontal organisations have declared the region to be poppy free recently.
Meanwhile, Poumai Naga Students' Union (PNTM) president Asahrii Clement called upon all Poumai Naga citizens and inhabitants to follow the directive and order issued by Poumai Naga Union, the apex parent body of Poumai Naga tribe.
As the voice of Poumai Naga youth and students, PNTM would do anything to implement the order of its parent body, Asahrii Clement added.
