Imphal, March 06 2022:
A complaint has been filed to the Election Commission of India (ECI) seeking strict action against the presiding officers and staff assigned for poll duty in six polling stations of Ukhrul AC on Saturday, along with an appeal for a re-poll in the said polling stations.
The complaint was jointly filed by Naga People's Front (NPF) candidate Ram Muivah's election agent N Francis Yangmi and polling agents of the six polling stations.
According to the complaint, the presiding officers and polling staff on duty at 44/40 Wino Bazaar, 44/8 New Cannon, 44/45 Kamphasom, 44/21 Shangshak, 44/22 Shangshak and 44/64 Luughar polling stations, conspired and allowed the booths to be captured in support of the opposing candidate, while further allowing proxy voting and use of unfair means.
Thus, the complainants appealed to ECI to look into the matter and take strict legal action against the presiding officers and staff of the six polling stations, while further appealing for a re-poll in the said polling stations.
It may be mentioned here that N Francis Yangmi had written to SP Ukhrul on March 4, requesting for Shangshak to be declared as a hypersensitive polling station to prevent any unwanted incidents on voting day, owing to a tense situation caused by workers of another candidate a day ahead of the polls.
