In continuation of its protests against legalisation of liquor in the state, Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) , Imphal East District Committee in association with All Manipur Women's Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj) and Chingtham Mayai Leikai Meira Paibi Lup organised a sit-in protest at Chingtham Mayai Leikai in Thoubal district on Saturday.
During the sit-in, the protestors shouted slogans denouncing the government's decision to legalise production and sale liquor in Manipur and demanding its revocation at the earliest.
Speaking on the sidelines, Nupi Samaj president Thokchom Ramani remarked that the government failed to properly implement the liquor prohibition laws and now is suggesting for sale of alcohol through licensed outlets, which is basically giving a green light to the deconstruction of the state.
She then questioned why the government is pretending to be aloof to the plight of mothers and wives, who are at the risk of becoming widows As such, she urged the government to withdraw its cabinet decision, and cautioned that in case of failure then intense agitations would be launched.
