TNWL against using jab as criteria for Govt assistance

While calling for collective responsibility to fight the pandemic, Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL) has categorically urged the Government not to use vaccination as the criteria for providing or availing various Government assistance programme.
"The district administration is urged not to let vaccination disturb the free flow of government incentives and schemes just because someone has not taken the jab," TNWL said in a statement issued by its general secretary Kaphaoleng Angkang on Thursday.
The apex body of Tangkhul headmen warned that it would in no way allow vaccination to decide the aid being provided by the government under various categories for the welfare of the people.
On the contrary, the headmen's body observed that the authorities need to first educate the public to dispel any doubts or fear that they have about vaccination.
It appealed to the district's healthcare workers to refrain from random vaccination drive in their bid to restore normalcy before educating the people first through wider advocacy so that various notions and fear factor they attached with the jab is addressed.
"This, surely, will draw more people towards vaccination to achieve the figure needed to make the district vaccination programme successful," it said.
TNWL also appealed to every section of the people who have not taken the vaccination to get vaccinated to help restore normal live and ward off the looming threat posed by the disease.
"Let's make this district a hygienic and environment conscious one starting from our immediate home, village and town, and not wait for another catastrophe to catch us unaware.
The road towards ensuring this should be the shared responsibilities of every stakeholder and not just the authorities concerned, and civil societies," TNWL said.
Meanwhile, the headmen's body also lauded the district healthcare workers for their unstinted services provided to the district populace amid the dreaded pandemic that has devastated and shaken the livelihoods of the entire populace.
It said that since the beginning of the pandemic, the healthcare workers have been religiously performing their task beyond the call of duty, risking their own lives to ensure that no life is cut short for wants of timely intervention as humanity grapples with the deadly pandemic.
"Their relentless advocacy mission to reach the unreached remote villages educating and informing the masses is highly appreciated," it added.
