Senapati, September 01 2015:
United Naga Council (UNC) has condemned the passing of "anti-tribal Bills" in the Manipur Legislative Assembly on August 31 and stated that the Bills are only in the interest of particular community.
UNC also condemned the "barbaric and merciless" killing of people and injuring many in Churachandpur by State forces.
Blaming the O Ibobi led Government for going against the interests of the tribal people, UNC stated that the Government was totally against the tribals in Manipur and showed the "huge communal divide" in Manipur.
UNC reiterated that the current turmoil has proved that the tribals and the "majority community" cannot live together.
The council said forced union of the two different entities has reaped more division and hatred among different communities of the State.
Therefore, the UNC said the tribals in Manipur should seek "peaceful parting" to achieve harmony and peace.
UNC also condemned an MLA for making alleged "irresponsible" statement in the Assembly and blamed the State Government for creating the current political and social unrest in the State.
The council informed that it had submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India on July 29 on issue of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur demanding protection of tribal rights on their land, identities, histories, culture and traditional institutions.
