Imphal, October 23 2014:
Transporters' and Drivers' Council (TDC) and All Manipur Road Transport Drivers and Motor Workers Union have cautioned all not to unload fuel at oil pumps and restrict tankers from crossing the ISBT premises unless president of All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers' Union, Bhupenchandra Ghosh is booked for his reported assault of a driver, Niman Lama.
Addressing a press meet at the office of All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor Workers' Union located at MG Avenue, general secretary of the Union, H Kulamani and general secretary of Transport and Drivers Council (TDC) Ng Haridas strongly condemned the assault on a driver by Bhupenchandra Ghosh.
They announced that the tankers would stop unloading fuel at oil pumps unless the guilty is booked.
The two secretaries challenged as to why Bhupenchandra Ghosh is amassing all the chalans and restricting release of fuel to outlets which in turn has caused immense hardship to the people ahead of Ningol Chakkouba festival.
Saying that driver Niman Lama was assaulted without his fault, the two functionaries said that it was the weakness of the IOC to put on hold fuel due to the incident.
They also demanded to know why the driver was assaulted and to whom the gun, Bhupenchandra Ghosh used to threaten the driver, belongs.
They added that a case was registered against Bhupenchandra at Lamphel PS on Oct 21 regarding the incident.
The two secretaries also urged the SP (Imphal West) and the State Home Minister to intervene into the matter and book the culprit for the sake of justice.
