Prof Gangmumei Kamei's new work 'A History of Modern Manipur (1826-2000): A Study of Feudalism, Colonialism and Democracy' was released today at JNIMS auditorium, Porompat.
Former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, Prof Lal Dena, Prof MC Arun and Prof N Joykumar were seated on the dais at the book release function.
Speaking at the occasion, Rishang Keishing reminded that Manipur is a State inhabited by different communities.
Publication of a new book on the modern history of Manipur is a big accomplishment.
In the long run, the book would prove to be a strong inspiration towards forging lasting unity among different communities of the State, Rishang Keishing asserted.

Giving a brief introduction of his book, Prof Gangmumei said that he felt an inner urge to write the book since the past many years but he could not find time to sit down and start the necessary research work.
"It was one promise which I made to Imashi MK Binodini which drove me to write the book up to the last chapter leaving aside all pressing assignments", Prof Gangmumei said.
He said that he wrote the book when he was in Himachal Pradesh for a period of two years.
Acknowledging Prof Gangmumei's vast knowledge about the history of Manipur, Dr Ratankumar said that Prof Gangmumei's new book would prove to be highly inspirational for the growth of many ideas and thoughts.
Prof MC Arun said that the new book would soon find itself as a reliable handbook in the hands of all history students of Manipur.
The book would be indispensable to all researchers and scholars studying Manipuri history.
Hailing Prof Gangmumei as a role model among Manipuri historians, Prof Lal Dena remarked that Gangmumei's works deserve appreciation at the highest level.
Prof Joykumar said that Prof Gangmumei has contributed a lot to the State's academic realm.
The book released today would certainly shed new lights on the history of Manipur.
One can always expect Prof Gangmumei to churn out many more commendable academic works in future too, Prof Joykumar added.
