First session of Manipur University of Culture Commences

Manipur University of Culture commences its first session today formally at the complex of Govt.Dance & Music College, Palace Compound, Imphal.
Speaking to the students, the Vice Chancellor of the Culture University Prof.Naorem Khagendra Singh, said life consists of memory and visions.
Manipur which had a rich cultural heritage now have University of Culture, our dream have come true.
"For the last 20 years we have been thinking and working for having a cultural University in the state to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage", Khogendra said.

Cultural University is a must in the State and for establishing University of Culture, a policy on culture has been drafted way back in 2002, added the Vice Chancellor.
The Manipur University of Culture, for the time being have eight different departments including Thang-Ta, Theatre, Visual Arts, Umang Lai Haraoba, Sankirtana, Dance, Music and Tribal Studies.
The University has recruited 19 faculty members as teaching staffs and the number of students enrolled for the first session are in Thang-Ta- 22, Theatre-15, Visual Arts-9, Umang Lai Haraoba- 15, Sankirtana- 37, Dance-20, Music-28 and in Tribal Studies-8 .
Refresher English and Refresher Manipuri are the compulsory subjects, which are to be taught in all the streams.
Two books were released by Vice Chancellor of the Manipur University of Culture Prof.Naorem Khagendra Singh in today's function.
Art and Culture Director, Dr.K.Sushila Devi said, "It's a pleasure for all of us to have Manipur University of Culture.
Through this University we would be able to showcase our rich culture to the International level" .
DIPR Director, Meghachandra Kongbam said, "our rich culture symbolizes the great civilization of Manipuri built by our forefathers.
This Manipur University of Culture will certainly step into the development of our various typical cultural elements" .
While speaking to all the faculty members of the University; the Commissioner of Art & Culture K.Radhakumar Singh reminded the quotes of Neil Armstrong's first words from the moon who first landed on it in 1969. "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind".
He appealed to all the faculty members of the University to make the bright future of the Manipur University of Culture.
It may be mentioned that, the Manipur University of Culture was inaugurated by the then, Governor of Manipur V.Shanmuganathan at the Maharaj Chandrakirti Auditorium at Palace Compound on 12th August, 2016 .
