Imphal, August 19, 2012:
Questioning if his son and daughter-in-law were actually guilty of killing Miranda, the bereaved mother of Suranjoy has prayed to the authorities concerned to investigate and find out the truth without any partiality.
Suranjoy and his wife Amutombi were lynched by incensed mobs yesterday on the charge of killing Miranda.
Incidentally, Suranjoy's son Abung and Miranda were close friends who used to play together.
When a team of media persons visited Wabagai Tentha Thambal Chingya and Kakching police station in connection with the triple murder, it remained doubtful whether Miranda was killed by the couple or all three of them were killed under a conspiracy by a gang.
On August 12 itself when Miranda went missing, her family filed a complaint at Kakching police station.
Moreover, the JAC in connection with the killing of Miranda informed police in time to pull up suspects for questioning, said JAC president Moirangthem Tomba.
However, police did not pull up any suspect which resulted in yesterday's double killing.
It was quite shocking, Tomba said.
According to the OC of Kakching PS, police tried to pick up Suranjoy based on the statements of some people of Wabagai Tentha Thambal Chingya which named Shamjetsabam Suranjoy as a suspect in the murder of Miranda.
But Suranjoy was never picked up and his statements were never taken.
On going after Suranjoy, it was learnt that he was undergoing treatment in Pari Imom, a private hospital on August 16. After he was discharged from Pari Imom, Suranjoy was admitted to CHC Kakching on August 17. The OC, quoting local people, said that Miranda was seen playing at the gate of Suranjoy at about 11.30 am of August 11. At about 4.30 pm of August 13, Miranda's silver chain was found on the road near Suranjoy's gate, according to a report submitted to police.
Miranda's grandfather and Suranjoy's father used to work in the same post of Chowkidar in the nearby Government seed firm.
While Miranda's grandfather had his job regularised, Suranjoy's father did have the same fortune, said the OC quoting local villagers.
Suranjoy's father Modhuchandra said that his son went out canvassing for the Panchayat elections on August 11.He was taken to Pari Imom the same night as he complained about pain in the stomach.
He was brought back home by Miranda's uncle and one Shyam.
Starting from August 11, he stayed in for the subsequent days.
"We cannot imagine in the our wildest dreams that a sick man like Suranjoy can kill an innocent kid", Modhuchandra said.
When people started pointing their fingers to Suranjoy, he swore his innocence in the name of his five year old son.
Had due questioning be done before killing Suranjoy, there would not have been any complaint.
"Moreover, my daughter-in-law was rounded up by some people and slaughtered without giving any reason", Modhuchandra said.
One of Suranjoy's sister-in-law demanded evidence if Suranjoy was held guilty for killing Miranda.
