Imphal, June 17 2016 :
A truck transporting betel leaves was set ablaze between Awangkhul and Ruangkhong, Tamenglong district along NH 37 at around 7.30 am today by suspected supporters of the economic blockade called by the JAC Against Anti-Tribal Bills and Outer Manipur Tribal Forum.
The mini truck (Xenon) was transporting betel leaves from Jiribam towards Imphal and it was driven by one Moirangthem Mohon (34) of Koirengei.
The vehicle belonged to one Paojalung Kamei of Kakhulong.
Even though the vehicle was set ablaze, no harm was done to driver Mohon.
Meanwhile, MSF volunteers ransacked grocery shops at two different places of Khwairamband Bazar today for hiking prices of essential commodities in the name of the ongoing economic blockade.
The MSF volunteers first ransacked three grocery shops located at Bora Galli near Kasturi bridge, Thangal Bazar.
Then they ransacked two other grocery shops located at Nagamapal Lai Ishing Chaibi.
MSF joint secretary Wanglemba Khaba said that they had already appealed through media to all shopkeepers not to hike prices of essential commodities in the name of the ongoing economic blockade.
As the Government remained mute and blind even when prices of all essential commodities have been hiked, MSF was compelled to launch today's drive.
Notably, a notification issued by the CAF&PD Department on June 9 asked all wholesalers/stockists/retailers to display prices and stock positions of articles they are dealing in.
