Imphal, June 14 2020:
Driven by a strong suspicion about possible transmission of COVID-19 inside quarantine centres opened at different parts of the State, the Health Department has launched an investigation.
One high ranking official of Health Department told The Sangai Express that due investigation has been launched following suspicion of transmission of COVID-19 among inmates of some quarantine centres.
The official said that there is possibility of spread of COVID-19 among inmates when they stay in close contact, share meals and dance/sing together.

There would not be any spread of COVID-19 from one inmate to another staying together in quarantine centres if they strictly abide by the prescribed SOP and guidelines, asserted the official.
Maintaining that there is no sign of community transmission in the State as yet, the official pointed out that all the COVID-19 positive persons are returnees from outside the State.
However, there have been cases of people testing positive for COVID-19 in groups and they were staying together in quarantine centres.
Chief Minister N Biren went on record saying that indiscipline among inmates of quarantine centres and their failure to abide by SOP was one of the main reasons for the rapid surge in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the State.
People who came back to the State from different parts of the country are being quarantined in 133 institutional quarantine centres and over 600 community quarantine centres.
As decided by the COVID-19 State Consultative Committee in the wake of the rapid and continuous surge in the COVID-19 positive cases, the Health Director has asked DCs to identify areas where COVID-19 care centres can be opened within their respective districts.
The DCs have also been asked to submit reports by June 17 to the Health Department on the same matter.
Meanwhile, it is reported that a COVID-19 testing equipment which can test larger number of samples in a day would arrive at Imphal by next week.
Notably, there are 10,000 samples which have not been tested for COVID-19 while samples are yet to be taken from 6000 other people.
