Imphal, June 13 2012:
Zero density fuel which was detected by Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) of Imphal West District Police at a rented room inside the residential compound of one Khaidem Hera of Khurkhul Makha Leikai on May 24 cannot be retrieved till date.
It is reported that the particular rented room was used for siphoning fuel illegally.
The zero density fuel which is being kept underground cannot be retrieved yet because of certain technical difficulties as this particular type of fuel which is used as solvent is highly inflammable.
Acting on a particular report that kerosene oil meant for distribution to public was being stocked there, a team of SIU inspected the godown.
The team not only found kerosene but they also discovered this particular type of fuel which is also used as a solvent.
For SIU, their duty is limited to discovery of the illegal stockpile and inform the same to police stations concerned for necessary action.

On May 24, Sekmai Police seized 34 Kls of kerosene from two locations of Sekmai Makha Leikai based on information provided by SIU.
Though the kerosene was seized, zero density fuel is still inside the underground tank.
Whereas the zero density fuel is highly inflammable, the godown does not conform to standard fire safety rules.
As such, authorities are fearful of a devastating fire breaking out while trying to retrieve the same.
Following the discovery of zero density fuel at Khurkhul, it is now clear that IOC transporters have been bringing the same type of fuel to Manipur for the last many years clandestinely.
This type of oil is easily available when one reached Dimapur.
This oil is brought to Imphal by big black marketers in cahoot with IOC transporters.
This oil is used in big industries as solvent and they buy it from the Ministry of Petroleum.
Zero density oil is a type of oil which is very cheap.
These industries after purchasing zero density oil in quantities exceeding their requirements sell the same oil in black markets at higher prices, informed a source.
