Pro-ILPS women activists released

Twenty eight pro-ILPS woman agitators, who were arrested during a protest on BT road on July 25, were released from the jail today.
However, a furore erupted outside Cheirap Court complex when the Court initially decreed to send them to judicial custody till August 22 after they refused to secure their release on bail.
They were produced before the Court of CJM Imphal West under FIR No 120 (7) 2014 of City Police Station under Section 147/149/188 and 353 of Indian Panel Code amidst tight security at around 11 am.
A large number of womenfolk who gathered outside the Court complex tried to get inside the Court complex when they were brought inside the Court complex by a police team.
However, a strong police team stopped them from getting inside the complex and pushed them back a few meters away from the Court complex.
The womenfolk demonstrated there shouting pro-ILPS slogans.
Later, the Court decreed to send all the 28 women to judicial custody till August 22 as they refused to secure their release on bail.

After the prisoners van carrying them left the Court complex, the agitating womenfolk also followed the van by taking out a rally on BT Road.
However, police prevented them from marching beyond the temporary market shed.
Later in the late afternoon, the Court granted release of all the 28 women on the ground of lack of evidence.
They were warmly received by a large number of jubilant womenfolk at the gate of Imphal Central Jail.
From there, they marched towards Thangmeiband shouting pro-ILPS slogans.
Meanwhile, JCILPS Women's Wing threatened to launch different forms of agitation if Advocate Pukhrambam Arjun, who was arrested for supporting pro-ILPS agitation from Keishampat on July 28, is not unconditionally released by tomorrow.
JCILPS Women's Wing hosted a press conference on the issue at AMSU Headquarters after 28 pro-ILPS women agitators were released.
