MDAHCEO and JAC stir intense : Bandh volunteers detain Addl CS

Volunteers of Mapithel Dam Affected Headmen, Chiefs and Elders Organisation (MDAHCEO) and Joint Action Committee Against Force Construction of Mapithel Dam, (JAC-AFCMD) Manipur who were stationed at Mahadev junction detained the visiting Additional Chief Secretary MH Khan and later forced him to return to Imphal.
According to a source available to this correspondent, the incident occurred today around 12.30 noon at Mahadev.
Addl CS MH Khan who was travelling along with his better half towards Ukhrul from Imphal was detained at Mahadev junction.
The irate volunteers also partially destroyed the vehicle's side glass and back windshield.
It might be mentioned that the volunteers also vandalised a private car for bandh violation yesterday.

The highway bandh was enforced on Ukhrul-Imphal and Kamjong-Imphal highway in protest against the indifference of the State Government to the agreed 19 points under Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed on April 12 and the ultimatum served by the body of the affected landowners to honour the demands on or before September 25.According to them, there was no response or action taken by the authorities concerned and hence the organization was compelled to enforce the 48 hours bandh in the interest of landless affected villagers.
The demands also include approval to for extending compensation to left-out affected villages namely-Sikiphung and Thawai Kuki village of Kamjong district and Siloijang, Thangjingpokpi, Resophung, Island and S Bongjang village of Kangpokpi district-in the Economic Livelihood Rehabilitation Packages and also to approve left-out beneficiaries of Shangkai village in Ukhrul district; Thawai (Thoyee), Riha, Ramrei, Lamlai Mongbung, Lamlai Khunou, Chadong, Louphong, Phaiyang, Nongdam (K) and Nongdam (T) villages in Kamjong district; Maphou Kuki and Bethelphai villages under Kangpokpi district; and Tumukhong village in Imphal East district.
The 48 hours bandh imposed from midnight of October 5 to 7 October along the lifeline highway Ukhrul - Imphal and Kamjong - Ukhrul has completely put a halt on all vehicular movement.
