World Environment Day observed in Senapati

In connection with the World Environment Day, Mao Council observed tree plantation week which began on May 25 by distributing tree saplings to villagers at its office headquarters at Tadubi.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of 'Clean Mao Movement 2016' with a sum of Rs 20,000 to Chowainu village (1st place), Rs 15,000 to Kalinamei village (2nd place) and Rs 3000 each were given to Song Song village, Shajouba village, Tadubi village, Chakumai village and Chowainamai village.
The Council lauded all the villagers for their cooperation and active participation.

It can be recalled that Mao Council in its seminar cum consultative meet on environment protection held on November 2016 had resolved and observed May 25-31 as Tree Plantation Week.
On the other hand, Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) and ADC, Senapati observed World Environment Day by conducting a seminar on the theme "Connecting People to Nature" at Indoor mini stadium, Senapati followed by a tree plantation drive.
The programme was graced by Chairman of ADC, Senapati ML Markson as chief guest and attended by ADM, Senapati Ng Roben Singh, DFO, Senapati Rajesh AM (IFS), CEO of ADC, Senapati Rang Peter, ADC Executive members , civil organizations and students from different schools.
ML Markson spoke on the increasing rate of environmental degradation and how to restore it.
He assured that the Autonomous District Council had taken a resolution to preserve the environment by imposing a ban on burning of forest.
Every year, ADC plants 10 -20 thousands of trees and distribute saplings to villages to promote tree plantation.
ADC also distributed the same to ADC member (400 saplings each) .
A tree plantation drive was also conducted where the saplings were planted between District Council office and District Hospital.
