IGNTU - RCM locked, books burnt Books outdated, says student leader

Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students' Union (IGNTUSU) has indefinitely banned normal functioning of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University � Regional Centre Manipur (IGNTU � RCM), Adimjati complex pressing different demands from today.
Students of the varsity not only took out books from the library and burnt them at the varsity complex but also locked the administrative block, library and main gate.
Union president Hemkholen Haokip said that the books which are available at the varsity library are outdated.
These books are of no use as these are not recommended by the faculties to refer for study, dissertation and research works etc, he said.
The university authority has not taken up any positive action regarding the students' long standing demand for procuring relevant books till today, he said.
As such, the students were compelled to set these outdated books on fire, the president added.
Hemkholen Haokip further said that the students' union had submitted memoranda on different occasions to the VC of IGNTU headquarters Amarkantak demanding appointment of a full-time Director of IGNTU-RC Manipur and shifting of the varsity from Adimjati temporary campus to Makhan permanent campus.
However, the varisity headquarters has been maintaining silence on these demands, he said.
Hemkholen Haokip further said that normal functioning of the regional campus would be banned until these demands are fulfilled.
