UNC's bandh hits normal life

Normal life in Chandel District was paralysed today due to the ongoing 48-hour hill districts bandh called by the United Naga Council (UNC) .
Bandh supporters under the aegis of Chandel Naga Peoples' Organization (CNPO) blocked Imphal-Moreh road at Lamkang Khunou village and district headquarters road at Liwachangning village, Laishokching Lamkhai.
Though vehicular movement was restricted, medical emergencies and religious activities were exempted from the purview of the bandh.
At Chandel district headquarters, educational institutions, shops and business establishments were shut down.
Government offices also recorded low attendance.
The ongoing bandh also affected normal traffic in Senapati district, particularly Lairouching, Karong, Maram, Tadubi and Mao.
Educational institutions and business establishments were also shut down.
Volunteers of NPO, Maram Students' Union and other student bodies came out and blocked the National Highway at their designated locations.
It has been reported that many trucks, buses and wingers remain stranded at Mao Gate.
No untoward incident has been reported till the time of filing this report.
