Imphal, July 28 2022:
Stating that fulfilment of Clause 126 of the UGC Act 1956 is mandatory for a university to become full fledged, Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar today claimed that the Government has been working to fill up vacant administrative posts of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) so that it can become a full fledged university.
Based on a report about boycotting classes by DMU teachers, MLA Kh Joykisan and MLA Okram Sutjakumar raised a call attention motion in the State Assembly today.
As the House deliberated the motion, the Education Minister recalled that it was N Biren's first Government which set up DMU on April 6, 2018 after combining the manpower and infrastructure of DM College of Science, DM College of Arts, DM College of Commerce, GP Women's College and LMS Law College.
There are around 600 teaching and non-teaching staff of DMU in addition to a regular Vice Chancellor, he said.
But the manpower of 600 is not enough for DMU to be a full fledged university.
As such, some posts have been created and the same has been forwarded to the Department of Personnel for due approval.
The newly created posts include Registrar, Deputy Registrar and Deputy Finance Officer, Basanta Kumar said.
