Imphal, February 28 2016:
The State BJP today demanded removal of incompetent Chief Minister O Ibobi from his office instead of initiating action against Dy Chief Minister in connection with the suspension of five cops.
Addressing media persons today at the party office located at Nityapat Chuthek, in-charge of Media Affairs of State BJP, L Basanta asked what was the logic behind the suspension of five police personnel after the Dy CM told the State Assembly that no police personnel committed any wrongs against the Naga Students' Federation (NSF) delegates.
Referring to the reported dissension by 20 Congress legislators who demanded punitive action against Dy CM Gaikhangam following the suspension of five cops in the NSF-Police row, the BJP leader said that Dy CM Gaikhangam should not resign, rather the Council of Minister should remove CM O Ibobi from his office.
Police personnel will not become better policemen just by equipping them with state of the art equipment as part of police modernisation, he said.
Policemen should be given proper training so that they maintain good and cordial relations with the public.
While no action has been taken against the policemen involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood during the ILP movement, the State Govt suspended five police personnel who were executing normal duties.
This shows that there is no law in the State under autocratic rulers, Basanta said.
He also likened the present 'lawlessness' with the medieval Indian ruler Mohammed Bin Tughlaq's reign.
Basanta sought cooperation of the public in the BJP's efforts to bring a change in governance.
BJP State unit general secretary, M Ashnikumar said that the framework on agriculture and allied sector tabled by the CM in the ongoing Budget session is vague.
Although Rs 50 crore for streamlining water planning has been released by the Centre to all States, the same has not been properly implemented in Manipur, he said.
It is very unfortunate that the incumbent State Govt has failed to formulate policies during its 14 years rule in the State, Ashnikumar said.
The BJP leader also strongly censured the indifferent attitude of the State Govt to people's grievances.
He added that it is very unfortunate that the State Govt fails to attend to public grievances unless a mass upheaval happens.
He pointed out that the ban on national projects in Tamenglong district imposed by the Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) has crossed the 10 days mark although the Govt remains adamant to their grievances.
Saying that there was no mention of 'corruption' in the Governor Address, the BJP leaders said it is worth pondering whether the Govt has legalised corruption in the State.
