Imphal, August 27:
Reacting to reports in certain section of the media, that may give room to confusion and misunderstanding, the seven MLAs who had earlier threatened to resign from their posts, if the AFSPA is not revoked in part or in whole, today issued a statement spelling out their stand in clear cut terms.
Addressed mainly to the Apunba Lup, the MLAs said that they had served the ultimatum to resign from their posts if the said Act was not withdrawn in parts or in whole by August 15.Despite strong opposition from the Centre, the State Cabinet decided to revoke the said Act from 7 ACs of the Imphal Municipal areas on a trial basis, said the MLAs and added that they understand the sentiments of the public and hence had announced their resignation threat.
The assurance that the Act will be lifted from the whole of the State if the law and order situation improves still stands, they added.
The AFSPA has been in force in Manipur for the last 30/40 years, said the MLAs and added that it will not be fair to hold the present Govt solely responsible for the present state of affairs.
The MLAs also made it clear that they have never acted as advisors to the CM adding that all the decisions are taken by the decision making body of the Govt. They also appealed to the Apunba Lup to co-operate and study the options of bringing about long lasting peace.
