In its efforts to reduce election related expenditures, the Election Commission of India has started identifying Assembly Constituencies which recorded greater expenditures in the previous elections.
An official source informed that the Chief Electoral Officer has demanded constituencywise expenditure statements of the previous elections from the respective Deputy Commissioners.
Subsequently, reports of some Assembly Constituencies have been furnished.
According to a report furnished by the Moirang SDO, out of the three constituencies located within the sub-division, Moirang and Thanga constituencies spent relatively greater amounts in the previous elections.
On the other side, Keirao and Andro constituencies made lesser expenditures in previous elections as per the report furnished by the Keirao Bitra SDO.
The Chief Electoral Officer has started dispatching the reports to the Election Commission of India.
Meanwhile, ballot boxes used in yesterday's polling for Chingai and Phaibung Khullen ADC elections have been brought to Imphal today.
The votes would be counted in the office complex of Imphal West DC on October 31 .
Ballot boxes used in Chingai were brought here by Assam Rifles personnel posted at Awang Kasom in a helicopter.
Ballot boxes used in Phaibung Khullen were brought to Imphal by road with security escorts.
