Traditional houses at Sangai Fest draw people

Sangai Festival brings people of the State� with different traditions, cultures and different languages�together as one.
This was stated by Health and Family Welfare Minister, Phungzathang Tonsing while attending the ongoing Manipur Sangai Festival as the chief guest today.
He said that Sangai Festival has become one of the biggest and colourful festivals not only in the State, but also at the National level attracting many visitors from abroad.
On the other hand, the traditional houses of different communities put up at the venue of Sangai Festival have proven to be a major draw for the people.

The Health Minister said that Manipur has received the Best Performance Award on Infant Mortality Rate in the Health sector last year.
This year too, the State got the Best Performance Award on sex ratio and increased hospital beds in the small States category where the CM and the Minister himself received the award just two weeks back in Delhi.
The achievement would not have been possible without the untiring efforts and commitments of the Government under the leadership of Chief Minister O Ibobi, Phungzathang said.
Manipur is rich in cultural heritage and the diverse cultures make the State a colourful one, he said while adding that the people of the State are gifted with inborn talents in various fields like sports, art and culture, etc.
Meanwhile, tourists and revellers today were seen enjoying their time at the traditional house models of different communities of the State.
The traditional houses of Meitei (Yumjao), Maring (Chim), Thadou (In), Zeme (Chaki), Mao (Ochi), Liangmei (Chaki), Tangkhul (Sim), Poumai (Chi), Gangte (In), Paite (In), Rongmei (Tarangkai), Chiru (In), Kom (In), etc have been put on display at the festival venue with important and significant household items.
Talking to The Sangai Express, a visitor said that seeing the different traditional houses of different tribes of the State provides a fresh insight into the history and culture of the people.
That people of the State lived a simple life in the past is evident from the styles of their houses, he said.
He expressed hope that the present generation finds reconnection with the past.
The traditional attires, tools and utensils adorning these houses will surely make the visitors understand the particular community easily, another visitor said.
The main attraction today was the traditional houses made of wood and bamboo adorned by traditional women weavers.
Traditional household materials have also been put on display much to the delight of the visitors.
The house models of all the communities of the State have been showcased for the first time in the Manipur Sangai Festival this year.
