The apex Naga body, the Naga Hoho, and the Nag Baptist Church Council, NBCC, has appealed to the sponsors of the current indefinite economic blockade on NH-39 in Senapati district of Manipur to suspend the blockade for the convenience of all communities.
According to reports from Kohima, leaders of the two bodies, during a meeting yesterday, took the stand that blockading of national highways was not a Christian activity and urged that the national highways must be respected.
Apart from Hoho and NBCC United Nag Council, Manipur led by its president, KS Paul Leo attended the meeting.
It is understood that the UNC has been asked to convey the feeling of the Naga Hoho and the NBCC to the blockade sponsors for coming to terms and lifting the blockade.
According to the report, during the meeting, leaders particularly of the Naga Hoho and NBCC, while endorsing the sentiments of the Nagas in the wake of the ceasefire review, the commitment to the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks maintained that a proper line of action should be followed in the matter.
Blockading highway, which all should respect, is certainly not a Christian activity, the leaders maintained.
During the discussing, they were of the firm opinion that he Nagas in general would reciprocate this sentiment.
The UNC representatives have reportedly promised to convey the decision of the two bodies to the Senapati- based groups which had called the blockade.
